Most Indonesian Citizens Unaware of Free Legal Aid

Indonesian public awareness of legal services remains low. This is evident from a Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) survey titled "The Irony of Legal Professionals."

According to the survey, the majority, or 62.9% of respondents, were unaware of the existence of free legal aid services.

Furthermore, 27.2% of respondents knew about free legal aid but didn't know how to access it. Only 9.9% of respondents knew how to obtain it.

The Litbang Kompas survey also found that 40.2% of respondents felt a strong need for free legal assistance services now or in the future.

Then, 33% of respondents were unsure whether they would need it, 22% needed free legal assistance, and another 4.8% did not need it.

This Litbang Kompas survey involved 530 respondents across 38 Indonesian provinces, selected randomly and proportionally.

Data collection was conducted from July 22-24, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.32% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
