Indonesia's 10 Most Livable Cities in 2022: Solo Takes the Crown

Based on a report by the Indonesian Association of Planners (Ikatan Ahli Perencanaan or IAP), Solo was the most livable city in Indonesia in 2022. This Central Javanese city achieved a Most Livable City Index (MLCI) score of 77.1 out of 100 points.

This score was based on a citizen perception survey covering 28 indicators, including health facilities, food security, transportation, security, waste management, and government services in each city.

Solo excelled particularly in the indices of health facilities, religious facilities, food security, energy, and communication networks.

"The city of Solo focuses on increasing the availability of green open spaces (RTH), city parks, and pedestrian walkways, coupled with a slum revitalization program as a response to creating a healthier urban environment," wrote the IAP in its report.

Yogyakarta came in second with a score of 75.3 points. This city achieved high scores in the energy index, religious facilities, telecommunications networks, clean water provision, and city cleanliness.

Cirebon ranked third with a score of 74.4 points, followed by Magelang with 73.5 points, and Semarang with 73.3 points.

Kediri, Mataram, Pangkal Pinang, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin also made the top 10, as shown in the graph.

The IAP survey involved more than 20,000 respondents from 52 cities spread across 32 Indonesian provinces. Respondents were selected randomly, with a survey margin of error of 5% and a confidence level of 95%.
