Aceh Province Had the Nation's Highest Percentage of Muslim Residents in June 2021

Aceh is the province with the highest percentage of Muslim residents in Indonesia. Based on data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the number of residents in "Serambi Mekah" who practice Islam is 5.24 million, or 98.56% of the total population of 5.33 million.

Of the 10 provinces with the highest percentage of Muslim residents, 4 are located in Sumatra, 3 in Java, 1 in Kalimantan, 1 in Sulawesi, and 1 in Nusa Tenggara.

The next province with the largest Muslim population is Gorontalo, reaching 98.02% of a total population of 1.2 million. Then, Bengkulu has a Muslim population reaching 97.67% of a total population of 2.03 million. Similarly, West Sumatra has a Muslim population reaching 97.6% of a total population of 5.6 million.

Next, West Java has a percentage of Muslim residents reaching 97.29% of a total population of 47.59 million, Central Java 97.26% of a total population of 37.23 million, and East Java 97.21% of a total population of 40.99 million.

Other provinces with the highest percentage of Muslim residents are South Sumatra at 97.17% of a total population of 8.49 million, East Kalimantan at 97.02% of a total population of 4.1 million, and West Nusa Tenggara with a Muslim population of 96.83% of a total population of 5.41 million.
