Rainfall in This Province Was the Lowest in Indonesia in 2019

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released national rainfall data for 2019. Central Sulawesi had the lowest rainfall, at only 637.6 millimeters.

Next were Gorontalo with 910 millimeters and West Sulawesi with 884.9 millimeters.

Palu City had the lowest rainfall in Central Sulawesi Province. According to records from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the highest rainfall in Palu City in 2019 was in July, reaching only 78.9 millimeters. Meanwhile, in December 2019, rainfall reached only 51.1 millimeters.

Furthermore, according to the BMKG report, Palu City is the only area in Central Sulawesi that does not follow or is not influenced by the monsoon season like other cities. For example, several areas in Central Sulawesi are experiencing light to heavy rain, but not Palu City.

This condition occurs because Palu City is located in Palu Bay and surrounded by hills and mountains. As a result, rainfall in Palu City is usually heavily influenced by local weather patterns.
