Poverty Rate in Aceh Decreases in March 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 834,240 poor people in Aceh in March 2021, a 0.04% increase compared to September 2020, which recorded 833,910 individuals. However, the poverty rate in Aceh decreased from 10.43% in September 2020 to 10.33% in March 2021.

Specifically, the rural poverty rate in Aceh decreased from 17.96% in September 2020 to 17.78% in March 2021. Meanwhile, the urban poverty rate in Aceh increased from 10.31% in September 2020 to 10.46% in March 2021.

One factor contributing to the decrease in Aceh's poverty rate is the increase in the farmer exchange rate (NTP) in several sub-sectors in March 2021. Specifically, the people's plantation sub-sector increased by 3.22%, horticulture by 3.31%, and fisheries by 4.49%.

Furthermore, the open unemployment rate (TPT) in Aceh was 6.3% in February 2021, lower than the August 2020 figure of 6.59%. The impact of the Covid-19 coronavirus on the working-age population in Aceh was 4.32% in February 2021, down from 10.01% in August 2020.

During the period September 2020 - March 2021, the poverty line (GK) in Aceh increased by 3.22% from Rp 524,208 per capita per month to Rp 541,109 per capita per month. The poverty line in urban areas increased by 4.06% from Rp 543,685 per capita per month to Rp 565,776 per capita per month. Similarly, the poverty line in rural areas increased from Rp 514,663 per capita per month to Rp 529,035 per capita per month.
