Between October 7th and 24th, 2023, the Israel-Palestine conflict resulted in approximately 7,200 deaths and 23,500 injuries on both sides.
This data was compiled by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) from the Gaza Ministry of Health and official statements from the Israeli government.
By the 18th day of the war, Tuesday, October 24th, 2023, the total number of Palestinian casualties was approximately four times higher than the number of Israeli casualties.
"Massive Israeli air and ground bombardments intensified overnight across the Gaza Strip, resulting in the highest death toll in Gaza since the beginning of the war, as reported by the Gaza Ministry of Health," OCHA stated in its report on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023.
OCHA noted that the majority of Palestinian casualties were in the Gaza Strip, with approximately 5,791 deaths and 16,297 injuries. In the West Bank, there were 95 deaths and 1,833 injuries.
Meanwhile, Israeli casualties numbered approximately 1,402 deaths and 5,445 injuries, with no increase from the previous day.
In addition to the above figures, OCHA reported approximately 1,550 missing Palestinians in Gaza, about 800 of whom were children.
These missing persons are believed to be trapped or buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
"Rescue teams, primarily from the Palestinian Civil Defense, are struggling to conduct search and rescue missions for the missing, amidst continuous airstrikes, a lack of fuel supplies for vehicles and equipment, and limited or no cellular network connectivity," OCHA stated.
OCHA also reported that the number of displaced persons in Gaza exceeded 1.4 million on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023.
Of this number, approximately 590,000 people were staying in UNRWA emergency shelters, the UN agency serving Palestinian refugees. Approximately 101,500 sought refuge in hospitals, churches, and other public buildings; 79,000 were in non-UNRWA shelters; and approximately 700,000 were staying with relatives.
"Overcrowding in UNRWA shelters in central and southern Gaza is a major concern. The number of displaced persons in many UNRWA shelters has reached 4,400, while these shelters are only designed to accommodate 1,500-2,000 displaced persons per shelter," OCHA stated.
"Overcrowding and shortages of essential supplies have triggered tensions among the displaced, as well as reports of gender-based violence," it continued.
