North Sumatra's Human Development Index Score Reached 72 Points in 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the Human Development Index (HDI) score of North Sumatra reached 72 points in 2021. This figure increased by 0.32% compared to the previous year's achievement of 71.77 points.

From 2011 to 2021, the HDI score of North Sumatra showed an upward trend with an average increase of 0.69% per year. However, the HDI score of North Sumatra is still below the national average HDI of 72.29 points in 2021.

The increase in the 2021 HDI achievement in North Sumatra was supported by improvements in all dimensions of human development in the province. The long and healthy life dimension, measured by life expectancy (LE), was recorded at 69.23 years in 2021, up 0.18% compared to 69.1 years in 2020.

In the education dimension, the expected years of schooling (EYS) for 7-year-old children increased by 0.3% to 13.27 years in 2021. Meanwhile, the mean years of schooling (MYS) for the population aged 25 and over increased by 0.4% to 9.58 years.

The decent living dimension, measured based on the average real per capita expenditure per year, was recorded at Rp 10.5 million in 2021. This figure increased by 0.76% compared to Rp 10.42 million in 2020.

Medan City had the highest HDI score in North Sumatra, namely 81.21 points in 2021. Meanwhile, the lowest HDI score was held by Nias Barat Regency at 61.99 points.
