Muslims are the world's fastest-growing religious group. Research from the Pew Research Center indicates that by 2050, the global Muslim population is projected to grow by 75 percent. This is double the projected 35 percent growth of the world's overall population. Christian growth is projected at around 35 percent, and Hindu growth at 34 percent.
At least two major factors underlie the projected rapid growth of the Muslim population. First, this research shows that Muslims have more children than followers of other religions. Worldwide, each Muslim woman has an average of 3.1 children, higher than the combined average of other religious groups, which is only 2.3. Furthermore, the Muslim population has a higher proportion of young people compared to other religious adherents.
Fearing terrorist attacks by individuals of Muslim descent, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed an executive order banning and imposing strict scrutiny on visitors to the United States from seven Muslim-majority countries. These seven countries are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. This policy has drawn significant opposition from many within the U.S.
