BPS: The Number of Poor People in Central Sulawesi Increased by 1.53% (June 2024 Data)

The number of poor people in Central Sulawesi in June 2024 increased by 5,950 to 395,660 compared to September 2022. Compared to March 2022, the number of poor people also increased from 388,350.

However, this increase in the number of poor people did not impact the poverty rate, which actually decreased.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the poverty rate in Central Sulawesi reached 11.77% in 2024. This figure decreased by 0.64 percentage points compared to March 2023, which was recorded at 12.41%. Compared to September 2022, it decreased by 0.53 percentage points.

By region, the number of poor people decreased by 379,760 in March 2024 compared to March 2023 and was lower than in September 2022. The number of poor people in urban areas decreased by 190 to 91,920 in March 2024. The number of poor people in rural areas was recorded at 287,840.

Poverty conditions in Central Sulawesi are calculated based on the food and non-food poverty line, recorded at Rp 530,250 per capita/month. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), this latest poverty line is detailed as Rp 429,100 per capita/month for food needs and Rp 139,150 per capita/month for non-food needs.

The poverty line for rural areas is Rp 563,070 per capita/month. This is detailed as Rp 431,550 per capita/month for food and Rp 155,370 per capita/month for non-food. Meanwhile, the poverty line in urban areas is Rp 579,060 per capita/month, detailed as Rp 423,690 per capita/month for food and Rp 155,370 per capita/month for non-food.
