In 2020, millennials comprised the largest population segment in DKI Jakarta. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in the 2020 Population Census recorded their number at 2.83 million people, or 26.78% of the capital's total population of 10.56 million. Millennials are those born between 1981 and 1996, currently aged 24 to 39 years old.
The second largest percentage belongs to Generation Z (Gen Z), at 2.7 million people or 25.65% of the capital's total population. Gen Z comprises those born between 1997 and 2012, currently aged 8 to 23 years old.
Generation X ranks third, with 2.49 million people, equivalent to 23.64% of the capital's total population. Generation X includes those born between 1965 and 1980, currently aged 40 to 55 years old.
This proportion indicates that the majority of DKI Jakarta's population falls within the productive working age group (15-64 years). This also shows that DKI Jakarta is still enjoying a demographic bonus, which, if utilized effectively, can boost the economy.
