The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) recorded that the population of West Sulawesi who are Muslim numbered 1.21 million as of June 2021. This figure accounts for 83.79% of the total population in the province, which is 1.44 million.

As many as 192,700 people, or 13.37% of West Sulawesi's population, adhere to Christianity. 19,460 people, or 1.35% of the province's population, practice Hinduism.

There are also 15,590 people, or 1.08% of West Sulawesi's population, who are Catholic. Furthermore, 432 people, or 0.03% of the population in West Sulawesi, practice Buddhism.

Nine residents of West Sulawesi practice Confucianism. Meanwhile, 5,470 people, or 0.38%, adhere to indigenous beliefs.

By gender, 732,000 people, or 50.78% of West Sulawesi's population, are male. Meanwhile, 709,400 people, or 49.22%, are female.

Based on marital status, 762,960 people, or 52.93% of West Sulawesi's population, are unmarried. There are also 616,330 people, or 42.76%, who are married.

16,460 people, or 1.14% of West Sulawesi's population, are divorced. While 45,660 people, or 3.17%, are widowed.
