The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the percentage of Indonesia's poor population reached 9.36% in March 2023. The details show that 7.29% of the poor population resided in urban areas and 12.22% in rural areas.

BPS also mentioned several factors contributing to the low poverty rate in March 2023. One of them is the continued provision of social assistance (bansos) to reduce the burden of expenditure for the poor.

"The utilization of the Family Hope Program (PKH) social assistance in the first quarter of 2023 reached 89.3%, while the utilization of the Sembako social assistance stage 1 reached 86.5%," wrote BPS in its report.
