The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) handled 7,773 narcotics cases from 2009 to 2022.
Most recently, 879 narcotics cases were successfully handled throughout 2022. This figure represents a 14.76% increase compared to the previous year, which saw 766 cases.
In 2022, the highest number of narcotics cases handled by the BNN were in North Sumatra, with 76 cases. East Java and West Java followed, each with 52 narcotics cases.
Meanwhile, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) was the cleanest province in terms of narcotics cases throughout last year. This was followed by West Papua with 5 cases, and Banten and North Maluku with 8 narcotics cases each.
The trend shows that the handling of narcotics cases by the BNN has generally increased from 2009 to 2022.
Although the handling of narcotics cases in Indonesia decreased from 2019 to 2021, it increased again in 2022, as shown in the graph above.
During the 2009-2022 period, the highest number of narcotics cases in Indonesia was in 2018, reaching 1,039 cases. The lowest number was in 2009, with only 9 cases.
According to the BNN, a total of 12,137 suspects were involved in narcotics cases in Indonesia over the past 14 years.
Most recently, the BNN successfully handled 1,422 narcotics suspects throughout 2022. However, this number is not the highest in over a decade.
From 2009 to 2022, the highest number of narcotics suspects successfully handled by the BNN was in 2018, with 1,545 suspects, while the lowest number was in 2009, with only 2 suspects.
