1.48 Million Taxpayers Have Filed Their Annual Tax Returns as of January 24, 2024

The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of the Ministry of Finance reported that 1.48 million taxpayers had submitted their annual tax returns (SPT) as of Wednesday (January 24, 2024).

DJP Director of Dissemination, Services, and Public Relations, Dwi Astuti, detailed that these tax returns consisted of 1.42 million from individual taxpayers and 59,000 from corporate taxpayers.

"This figure shows a 37.97% increase compared to the same period last year," Dwi said in a statement, as reported by *Katadata* on Thursday (January 25, 2024).

She urged taxpayers to immediately submit their SPTs, either in person or online, to the Tax Service Office (KPP). The deadline for individual taxpayers is March 31, 2024, and for corporate taxpayers, April 30, 2024.

Beware of Fraud Schemes

In addition, the DJP also warned the public to be wary of fraudulent schemes impersonating the agency via WhatsApp, especially during the annual SPT reporting period.

Through the DJP's official Twitter account (@DitjenPajakRI), an example of a fraudulent WhatsApp message was shared. The perpetrator included a letter number with the title "Warning Letter," urgently demanding a fine for income tax (PPh).

Furthermore, the perpetrator also attached an APK file with a deliberately misleading title disguised as a PDF attachment. Victims were then directed to download the file via a link, which is suspected to lead to phishing scams.

"Please be careful, fellow taxpayers. The public can confirm with the relevant tax office for official DJP information," the DJP wrote on its official Twitter channel on Tuesday (January 23, 2024).
