SMRC Survey: Public Trusts Courts More Than the KPK and Police

Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) has released findings on public trust in law enforcement agencies. The results show that the public has more trust in the courts than in other law enforcement institutions.

The percentage of the public expressing very/sufficient trust in the Courts is the highest compared to other law enforcement agencies. 61% stated they trust the Courts, while 35% felt less/no trust. Next, 60% of respondents expressed very/sufficient trust in the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission), and 36% felt less/no trust. 4% of respondents did not answer.

Following this, 59% expressed very/sufficient trust in the Attorney General's Office, 36% less/no trust, and 4% did not answer. Meanwhile, 58% of the public expressed very/sufficient trust in the Police, 38% less/no trust, and 3% did not answer.

Overall, public trust levels in Indonesian law enforcement agencies are relatively similar. Public trust levels are not very high, although those expressing very/sufficient trust are above 50%.

This national survey was conducted by SMRC from July 31st to August 2nd, 2021. The survey involved 1,000 respondents aged 17 years and older or who were married. The survey aimed to evaluate the extent to which the Attorney General's Office has fulfilled its functions.
