The Israel-Palestine conflict has resulted in approximately 4,800 deaths and 18,300 injuries on both sides between October 7th and 18th, 2023.
This data was compiled by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) from the Gaza Ministry of Health and official statements from the Israeli government.
By the 12th day of the war, Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, the majority of casualties were Palestinian, as shown in the graph.
Specifically, the majority of Palestinian casualties were in the Gaza Strip, with approximately 3,478 deaths and 12,500 injuries. In the West Bank, there were 64 deaths and 1,284 injuries.
On the other hand, there were 1,300 deaths on the Israeli side—with no new deaths reported since Thursday, October 12th, 2023—and 4,562 injuries.
The number of displaced persons in the Gaza Strip is also reported to be increasing, but OCHA has not yet released detailed data.
"The number of displaced people in Gaza is estimated to reach one million, including more than 353,000 people sheltering in UNRWA schools in central and southern Gaza, in increasingly dire conditions," OCHA stated in its report on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023.
Previously, in its October 12th, 2023, report, *Hostilities in Gaza and Israel*, OCHA estimated that approximately 1.3 million Palestinians were in urgent need of assistance.
The estimated amount of aid needed is US$294 million, or approximately Rp4.6 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,714 per US$). Approximately 45% of this is needed for food provision.
By Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, at least eight countries had announced aid for Palestine, totaling approximately Rp1.9 trillion.
However, this aid has not yet reached the Gaza Strip due to blocked access by Israel.
"The complete siege of Gaza continues. The Rafah crossing (a city in the Gaza Strip bordering Egypt) remains closed, preventing the entry of much-needed humanitarian aid, including food, water, and medicines waiting in Egypt," OCHA stated on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023.
"The Erez and Kerem Shalom crossings (Gaza Strip border with Israel) also remain closed," it continued.
