According to Wealthy Gorilla, the wealthiest criminal in the world is Leona Helmsley, an American real estate tycoon with a fortune of US$8 billion (Rp 114.7 trillion). She was known for her flamboyant personality and bad behavior, earning her the public moniker "Queen of Mean."

In 1980, Leona was appointed president of Helmsley Hotel by her husband. This position further solidified Leona's position among the jet set. In 1989, Leona was found guilty of tax fraud and evasion. After a trial, Leona was sentenced to four years and 21 days in prison.
