Urban Poverty in West Java Increased by 7.82% in March 2021

The number of poor people in urban West Java increased in March 2021. Statistics Indonesia recorded a rise from 7.79% (3 million people) in September 2020 to 7.82% (3.05 million people) of the total population in March 2021. This figure also increased compared to March 2020, which stood at 7.14% (2.73 million people).

Meanwhile, the poverty rate in rural areas in March 2021 decreased to 10.46% (1.14 million people) from 10.64% (1.18 million people) in September 2020. However, the percentage of poor people in rural areas in March 2021 was still higher than in March 2020, which was 10.27% (1.9 million people).

As a result, the poverty rate in West Java, both rural and urban, fell to 8.4% (4.2 million people) in March 2021. This figure is lower than 8.43% (4.19 million people) in September 2020 and 7.88% (3.92 million people) in March 2020.
