The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Detects 196 Hotspots in Indonesia, Most in East Java (Wednesday, June 19, 2024)

Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK) SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system, 24-hour monitoring shows 196 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This is an increase of 26 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA accessed on Wednesday (19/6/2024) at 16.44 WIB. Of the 196 hotspots detected, 4 have a high confidence level, 190 are medium, and 2 are low.

The hotspot confidence level is divided into 3 scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). The higher the confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires in a particular area.

The highest number of hotspots was detected in East Java with 48. Central Sulawesi is second with 21, followed by Central Java with 17.

Thirteen hotspots were detected in West Nusa Tenggara, followed by East Kalimantan with 13, and North Maluku and Banten with 11 and 9 respectively.

Hotspots are coordinate points of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellites remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
