The number of poor people in these 7 provinces exceeds 1 million.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that seven provinces had a poverty population of over 1 million people in September 2021. Three of these provinces are located in Java, three in Sumatra, and one in Nusa Tenggara.

Based on BPS data, the number of people living below the poverty line in East Java reached 4.26 million. This figure is the highest compared to the other 33 provinces. It also equates to 10.59% of the total population in East Java.

The next provinces with the highest number of impoverished people are West Java, reaching 4 million (7.97% of the total population), followed by Central Java with 3.93 million (11.25%), and North Sumatra with 1.27 million (8.49%).

Furthermore, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has 1.15 million people living below the poverty line (20.44%), South Sumatra has 1.12 million (12.79%), and Lampung has 1.01 million (11.67%). The number of impoverished people in these seven provinces accounts for 73% of the total national poverty population.

Indonesia's poverty population decreased by 1.04 million to 26.5 million in September 2021, compared to 27.54 million in March 2021. Similarly, the poverty rate decreased to 9.71% in September 2021 from 10.14% in March 2021.
