Jakarta Ranked Among the Top 10 Most Congested Cities in Asia in 2023

According to the TomTom Traffic Index 2023 report, Jakarta is among the top 10 most congested cities in Asia in 2023.

This research was conducted across 387 cities in 55 countries and 6 continents. Congestion was measured based on the average travel time for a 10-kilometer (km) distance, fuel costs, and CO2 emissions.

The results show that drivers in the Indonesian capital require an average of 23 minutes and 20 seconds to travel 10 km. This ranks Jakarta as the 9th most congested city in Asia and 30th globally.

This figure represents an increase from the previous year, when it took 22 minutes and 40 seconds to travel the same distance.

The peak of congestion in Jakarta occurs on Friday evenings, around 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. During this period, it takes 23 minutes and 40 seconds to travel 10 km.

Bengaluru, India, holds the top spot as the most congested city in Asia, with an average travel time of 28 minutes and 10 seconds per 10 km.
