Based on the forest and land fire monitoring system SiPongi from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), monitoring over the past 24 hours detected 1,096 hotspots across Indonesia. This number decreased by 41 points compared to the previous period.

The data was obtained from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA satellite imagery accessed on Thursday (16/7/2026) at 11:34 WIB. Of the 1,096 detected hotspots, 36 had high confidence level, 1031 medium confidence, and 29 low confidence.

Hotspot confidence is divided into 3 scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), high (80-100). Higher hotspot confidence indicates greater likelihood of forest and land fires occurring in the area.

The most hotspots were recorded in West Kalimantan with 180 points, followed by South Papua (113 points) in second place, and East Kalimantan in third with 88 points.

67 hotspots were detected in South Sumatra, 58 in East Java, while East Nusa Tenggara and Maluku recorded 53 and 50 hotspots respectively.

A hotspot is a coordinate point where surface temperature is higher than its surrounding area; this does not equal the total count of fire incidents.

However, high and clustered hotspot numbers in an area indicate ongoing forest and land fires. Satellite-detected hotspot data remains the most effective method for monitoring wildfires across large territories.
