National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) States Poverty Remains Relatively High in 16 Provinces; Here's the List

Citing *Kontan*, the National Development Planning Ministry/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) stated that 16 out of Indonesia's 34 provinces still have relatively high poverty rates compared to the 2024 development target.

"In 2024, development in approximately 16 out of 34 provinces is still a concern, as Papua and West Papua, considered as one, still have relatively high poverty rates compared to the 2024 development target," said Bappenas Head Suharso Monoarfa in a working meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), as reported by *Kontan.co.id* on Monday (5/6/2023).

Meanwhile, by the end of President Joko Widodo's term, the poverty rate is being pushed down to the range of 6.5% to 7.5% by 2024.

West Papua has the highest poverty rate, ranging from 18.90% to 19.20%.

This is followed by East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) with a range of 16.50% to 16.90%.

The following are the 16 provinces with poverty rates still high compared to the 2024 development target:

1. Aceh: 12-12.50%
2. South Sumatra: 9.50-10.30%
3. Lampung: 9.50-10%
4. Bengkulu: 13.50-14%
5. Central Java: 9.50-10%
6. East Java: 8.50-8.90%
7. Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY): 10.85-11.20%
8. Gorontalo: 13.70-14%
9. West Sulawesi: 8.50-8.70%
10. Central Sulawesi: 10-10.30%
11. North Sulawesi: 9.50-9.80%
12. Southeast Sulawesi: 10-10.30%
13. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB): 12.50-12.85%
14. East Nusa Tenggara (NTT): 16.50-16.90%
15. Maluku: 14.00-14.60%
16. West Papua: 18.90-19.20%

"In Kalimantan, *alhamdulillah* (thank God), all are below the national average. In Java, it's still quite high, Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta," said Suharso.
