Henley & Partners has updated its list of countries with the world's strongest passports based on the Henley Passport Index at the beginning of the third quarter of 2023.
This time, Singapore takes the top spot. Its passport grants visa-free access to 192 out of 227 destinations.
Singapore has even overtaken Japan, the previous champion which held the most extensive visa-free access for the past five years.
Japan has dropped to third place, with visa-free access to 189 countries. It shares this ranking with Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, and South Korea.
Germany, Italy, and Spain occupy second place, with their passports offering visa-free access to 190 countries.
What about Indonesia's position?
Indonesia ranks 69th globally, with its passport providing visa-free access to 73 countries in the third quarter of 2023.
Visa-free access means passport holders no longer need to process and pay for visas before departure. Visas can be obtained on arrival or by using an electronic travel authorization (ETA).
The Henley Passport Index, published by Henley & Partners, is compiled using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The index covers 199 different passports from 227 travel destinations. The index report is updated in real-time annually whenever new visa policy changes are issued.
