The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.65 million cases by Friday, June 24, 2022. Morocco ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 17.15 percent. GISAID recorded 280 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 6.87 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Peru, which recorded a 15.84 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 2.37 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, Belgium with 44,656 additional Omicron cases (up 13.34%), Pakistan with a 12.62 percent increase in Omicron cases, totaling 678 cases compared to the previous week, and Mauritius with 1,818 additional Omicron cases (up 11.33%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 12,028, a 0.88 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
