The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.27 million cases by Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Tunisia ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 17.95 percent. GISAID recorded 598 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 3.82 percent compared to the previous day.
France follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in this country grew by 2.49 percent. Daily data shows a 0.04 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 363,200.
Next is North Korea, with an increase of 117,280 Omicron cases (up 2.23 percent). Omicron cases in Finland increased by 1.8 percent to 22,582 compared to the previous week, and Puerto Rico saw an increase of 15,429 Omicron cases (up 0.96 percent).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 38,005, a 0.11 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
