The Indonesian Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) recorded a Social Security Fund (Dana Jaminan Sosial/DJS) burden of Rp130.4 trillion in 2022.
This figure represents a 28% year-on-year (yoy) increase, marking the highest ever since the establishment of BPJS Kesehatan in 2014.
The Social Security Fund (DJS) is a trust fund belonging to all participants, comprising contributions and their investment returns. BPJS manages this fund for benefit payments to participants and operational financing of the social security program.
A breakdown of the 2022 BPJS Kesehatan DJS burden by source is as follows:
* Healthcare benefits: Rp113.5 trillion, up 25% (yoy)
* Increase in technical reserves: Rp11.5 trillion, up 159% (yoy)
* BPJS Kesehatan operational expenses: Rp4.03 trillion, down 1.6% (yoy)
* Reserve for the decline in the value of contribution receivables: Rp1.4 trillion, down 57% (yoy)
* Other expenses: Rp38.07 billion, up 94% (yoy)
Meanwhile, in 2022, BPJS Kesehatan's DJS revenue increased by approximately 1% (yoy) to Rp148.1 trillion. The breakdown of revenue sources is as follows:
* Contribution revenue: Rp144.04 trillion, up 0.5% (yoy)
* Investment income: Rp2.89 trillion, up 102% (yoy)
* Surplus from capitation budget calculations: Rp377.99 billion, up 38% (yoy)
* Cigarette tax contribution revenue: Rp269.71 billion, down 75% (yoy)
* Other income: Rp554.88 billion, up 15% (yoy)
With revenue exceeding expenses, BPJS Kesehatan recorded a surplus of Rp17.7 trillion in 2022.
This surplus resulted in a 45.8% yoy increase in the net assets of the BPJS Kesehatan DJS, from Rp38.76 trillion at the end of 2021 to Rp56.5 trillion at the end of 2022.
