A Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA) report titled *The Tobacco Control Atlas, Asean Region* shows that Indonesia has the highest number of smokers in ASEAN, at 65.19 million people. This figure represents 34% of Indonesia's total population in 2016.
Approximately 79.8% of smokers buy their cigarettes from kiosks, stalls, or minimarkets. Meanwhile, 17.6% purchase cigarettes from supermarkets. There are 2.5 million outlets in Indonesia that retail cigarettes. This figure does not include roadside cigarette vendors.
The Philippines is the second-highest ASEAN country in terms of the number of smokers, with 16.5 million people, or 15.97% of its population. Vietnam is third, with 15.6 million smokers, or 16.5% of its population.
In the Philippines, 96.4% of smokers buy cigarettes from supermarkets. In Vietnam, 68.4% of smokers buy their cigarettes from kiosks, stalls, or minimarkets, and 28.8% buy them from street vendors.
