North Kalimantan Had the Fewest Community Health Centers in Indonesia in 2020

The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the critical importance of community health centers (Puskesmas). They are the primary healthcare facilities relied upon by the Indonesian public.

However, several Indonesian provinces still have a shortage of Puskesmas. North Kalimantan, for example, only had 55 Puskesmas across 33 sub-districts in 2020, the lowest number nationally.

This equates to only one Puskesmas per sub-district. 22 of these Puskesmas offered inpatient facilities, while 33 offered outpatient services only.

Bangka Belitung Islands ranked second with 64 Puskesmas in 2020; 26 with inpatient facilities and 38 without.

Riau Islands followed with 88 Puskesmas (35 inpatient, 53 outpatient).

Gorontalo had 93 Puskesmas (26 inpatient, 67 outpatient). West Sulawesi had 96 (60 inpatient, 36 outpatient).

Bali had 120 Puskesmas (41 inpatient, 79 outpatient), and Yogyakarta had 121 (49 inpatient, 72 outpatient).

North Maluku had 147 Puskesmas (53 inpatient, 95 outpatient). West Papua had 161 (45 inpatient, 116 outpatient). West Nusa Tenggara had 174 Puskesmas (142 inpatient, 32 outpatient).
