The 2018 Global Cancer Observatory data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that the most prevalent cancer in Indonesia is breast cancer, with 58,256 cases or 16.7% of the total 348,809 cancer cases. Cervical cancer is the second most prevalent type of cancer in Indonesia, with 32,469 cases or 9.3% of the total cases.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) states that the incidence of breast cancer in Indonesia is 42.1 per 100,000 population. The average mortality rate from this cancer is 17 per 100,000 population. Meanwhile, the incidence of cervical cancer in Indonesia is 23.4 per 100,000 population. The average mortality rate from cervical cancer is 13.9 per 100,000 population.
Prevention and control efforts for both types of cancer are carried out through early detection in women aged 30-50 years. The methods used are Clinical Breast Examination (SADANIS) and visual inspection with acetic acid (IVA) for cervical cancer.
