Jakarta's Most Visited Museum in 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported approximately 121,000 visits to museums in Jakarta throughout 2021. This figure represents a significant decrease compared to 2020, which saw a total of 2 million visits.

The drastic drop in museum visits in Jakarta was caused by the closure of the National Monument (Monas) since March 2020 until an undetermined date, as well as decreased visits to other museums due to the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

The Jakarta History Museum and Inscription Museum were the most visited in 2021, with a total of 51,952 visits. This figure is down 64.4% from the previous year's 145,771 visits.

The next most visited museum was the Pulau Onrust Archaeological Park, with 23,135 visits in 2021, down 17.9% from the previous year's 28,165 visits.

The Wayang Museum followed with 20,632 visits in 2021, down 57.4% from the previous year's 48,456 visits.

Visits to the Fine Arts and Ceramics Museum, the Bahari Museum, the Textile Museum, and the Joang '45 Museum also decreased significantly throughout 2021, with a range of 2,000 to 20,000 fewer visitors per museum.
