The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) recorded 1,367 cases of the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) of the Covid-19 coronavirus in 25 provinces across Indonesia on Saturday, August 7, 2021. DKI Jakarta recorded the highest number of Delta variant cases, with 425 cases, representing approximately 31% of the total Delta variant cases.
West Java followed with the second highest number of Delta variant cases at 280. Central Java and East Kalimantan contributed 191 and 185 cases respectively.
East Nusa Tenggara and North Sumatra each had 51 and 29 cases respectively. Meanwhile, Gorontalo and South Kalimantan each reported the fewest cases, with only one case each.
In addition to the Delta variant, 61 cases of the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) and 17 cases of the Beta variant (B.1.351) were detected in Indonesia. Therefore, Indonesia currently has a total of 1,445 cases of new coronavirus variants.
To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the public is urged to diligently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. Furthermore, the public is encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
