The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.71 million cases by Tuesday, August 9, 2022. Iceland ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 32.23 percent. GISAID recorded 878 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 32.23 percent compared to the previous day.
Finland follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in this country grew by 11.67 percent. The number of new Omicron cases reported in this country was 10,489. Daily statistics show an 11.67 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 9,393 cases.
Next, Omicron cases in the Republic of Moldova increased by 9.52 percent to 414 cases compared to the previous week, Belize with 467 additional Omicron cases (up 9.37%), and Mexico with 25,595 additional Omicron cases (up 9.36%).
