Indonesia's 10 Least Air-Polluted Areas; Mamuju Ranks First Wednesday Afternoon

Mamuju had the cleanest air quality in Indonesia this afternoon. According to the air quality index from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Mamuju scored 25 on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 5:00 PM WIB.

At that time, Mamuju's air quality was categorized as good, meaning pollutant levels in the air were very minimal. Balikpapan was second with an air quality index of 34, followed by Tanjung Pinang in third place with an index of 36.

Below is a complete list of the 10 cities with the cleanest air quality in Indonesia according to the KLHK on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 5:00 PM WIB.

1. Mamuju (West Sulawesi): 25
2. Balikpapan (East Kalimantan): 34
3. Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands): 36
4. Banjar Baru (South Kalimantan): 38
5. Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan): 39
6. Banda Aceh (Aceh): 42
7. Cirebon (West Java): 50
8. Manokwari (West Papua): 51
9. Gresik (East Java): 52
10. Palu (Central Sulawesi): 54

Although these cities had the cleanest air quality nationally, not all cities had good air quality.

Based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 14 of 2020 concerning the Air Pollutant Standard Index, the KLHK classifies the air quality index as follows:

* 0-50: Good
* 51-100: Moderate
* 101-200: Unhealthy
* 201-300: Very Unhealthy
* 300+: Hazardous

Therefore, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 5:00 PM WIB, cities with good air quality were Mamuju, Balikpapan, Tanjung Pinang, Banjar Baru, Banjarmasin, Banda Aceh, and Cirebon. The other three cities, Manokwari, Gresik, and Palu, had moderate air quality.
