The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.49 million cases by Wednesday, February 22, 2023. The United States ranks first, with weekly Omicron cases growing by 0.59 percent. GISAID recorded 2.22 million Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.15 percent compared to the previous day.
The United Kingdom follows, with a weekly growth of Omicron cases reaching 0.32 percent. The number of Omicron cases reported in the country is 1.4 million. Daily statistics show a 0.03 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, also totaling 1.4 million.
Next, the number of Omicron cases in Germany increased by 0.41 percent to 534,740 cases compared to the previous week. Japan reported 381,260 Omicron cases (a three percent increase), and Denmark saw a 0.19 percent increase to 351,160 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 34,341, a 0.27 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
