The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.24 million cases by Monday, September 26, 2022. Russia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 33.78 percent. GISAID recorded 12,685 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 3.22 percent compared to the previous day.
Ukraine followed with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 33.12 percent. The number of new Omicron cases reported in the country was 619. Daily statistics show a 0.49 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 616 cases.
Next, new Omicron cases in Brunei Darussalam increased by 6.56 percent to 2,827 cases compared to the previous week, Trinidad and Tobago saw 1,713 new Omicron cases (up 3.82%), and Cambodia reported 1,496 new Omicron cases (up 2.82%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of new Omicron cases recorded up to today is 22,520, a 0.41 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
