According to the Henley Passport Index released by Henley & Partners, Indonesian passport holders had visa-free access to 71 countries during the first quarter of 2023.
As a result, Indonesia ranked as the 6th strongest passport in Southeast Asia and 75th globally.
Singapore held the top spot in Southeast Asia, with its passport providing visa-free access to 192 countries. The Singaporean passport was also the second strongest globally.
Malaysia's passport ranked second in Southeast Asia with visa-free access to 179 countries, followed by Brunei Darussalam (166 countries), Timor-Leste (94 countries), and Thailand (78 countries).

2. Malaysia (14th globally): 179 countries
3. Brunei Darussalam (23rd globally): 166 countries
4. Timor-Leste (58th globally): 94 countries
5. Thailand (68th globally): 78 countries
6. Indonesia (75th globally): 71 countries
7. Philippines (78th globally): 67 countries
8. Vietnam (88th globally): 55 countries
9. Cambodia (89th globally): 54 countries
10. Laos (93rd globally): 50 countries
11. Myanmar (96th globally): 47 countries
Japan had the world's strongest passport. Holders of Japanese passports could visit 193 countries visa-free during the first quarter of 2023.
Visa-free access means passport holders do not need to apply for and pay for a visa before departure. Visas can be obtained on arrival or by using an electronic travel authorization (ETA).
The Henley Passport Index compiles the ranking of passport strength based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), supplemented by research from Henley & Partners' Research Department.
The index covers 199 different passports and 227 travel destinations and is updated quarterly.
