The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.17 million cases by Saturday, May 7, 2022. According to GISAID data, Seychelles recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 424 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Seychelles currently represents 0.01 percent of the global total.
Aruba follows with a weekly growth of 49.18 percent in Omicron cases. The country reported 91 new Omicron cases. The daily increase in Omicron cases shows a 49.18 percent rise compared to the previous day, which recorded 61 cases.
Next, the increase in Omicron cases in Bonaire rose by 15 percent to 460 cases compared to the previous week; in Ukraine, the increase was 13.04 percent, reaching 104 cases compared to the previous week; and in Norway, the increase was 12.4 percent, reaching 19,050 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 11,159, a 2.31 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
