LPG, or Liquefied Petroleum Gas, has become a staple for almost all communities worldwide.
Besides being a fuel for household consumption, LPG is also widely used as fuel for modified motor vehicles.
LPG prices in several countries are recorded as very cheap; some are even less than Rp1,000 per liter.
Here is a list of the 10 countries with the cheapest LPG prices according to Global Petrol Prices data as of May 9, 2022:
1. Algeria: US$0.062 or Rp900.66/liter
2. Saudi Arabia: US$0.2 or Rp2,905.4/liter
3. Angola: US$0.248 or Rp3,603/liter
4. Russia: US$0.346 or Rp5,026.3/liter
5. Belarus: US$0.382 or Rp5,549/liter
6. Azerbaijan: US$0.382 or Rp5,549/liter
7. Kyrgyzstan: US$0.414 or Rp6,014/liter
8. Taiwan: US$0.497 or Rp7,220/liter
9. Honduras: US$0.621 or Rp9,021/liter
10. Peru: US$0.627 or Rp9,108.3/liter
The average price of LPG in Indonesia is not yet recorded in the Global Petrol Prices database.
However, according to market prices at the beginning of May 2022, subsidized LPG in a 3kg cylinder costs around Rp22,000.
When converted to liters (conversion rate: 1 liter = 0.51 kg LPG), the price of subsidized Indonesian LPG is approximately Rp3,700/liter, placing it third cheapest in the world.
Meanwhile, non-subsidized LPG in a 12kg cylinder is sold at around Rp205,000 or approximately Rp8,700/liter, placing it ninth cheapest.
According to Global Petrol Prices, LPG prices tend to be cheaper in low-income countries or in countries that produce and export natural gas. In high-income countries, LPG prices are generally higher.
LPG prices are also influenced by varying levels of taxes and gas subsidies in each country.
