The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) survey results show that decisiveness is the main reason Indonesian respondents chose the second candidate pair (paslon), Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, in the 2024 Presidential Election.
The proportion of supporters choosing this reason reached 18.1%. The next largest reason was simply "liking them," chosen by 16.6%.
Respondents also assessed Prabowo-Gibran as the most capable leaders (6.8%). This candidate pair was also considered capable of continuing Jokowi's leadership (6.7%).
Prabowo's background and position as a retired Lieutenant General of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, with 28 years of military experience, proved attractive to 6.2% of his supporting respondents.
Other reasons included being convincing, honest, down-to-earth, and following the choices of family or neighbors, with proportions shown in the attached graph.
This LSI survey also shows that Prabowo-Gibran's voters reached 47% of the total respondents in January 2024. This electability increased from the previous survey, which stood at 45.6% in December 2023.
The LSI survey method generally uses double sampling, which is a random sampling from a collection of data from previous face-to-face surveys.
A total of 210,001 respondents, randomly distributed throughout Indonesia, were previously interviewed face-to-face. On average, about 70% of them have phone numbers. A random sample of 14,870 data points was selected for telephone interviews, and 1,206 respondents were successfully interviewed during the survey period.
These telephone interviews were conducted on January 10-11, 2024. The survey's margin of error is estimated at 2.9% at a 95% confidence level, assuming simple random sampling.
