Most Indonesian Muslims Choose to Cook Their Own Meals for Suhoor and Iftar

The fasting month of Ramadan is special for Muslims in Indonesia, particularly in terms of food. Indonesians often prepare dishes exclusively consumed during Ramadan, such as kolak, various fruit-based desserts, sticky rice, and others.

According to a Jakpat survey, the majority of Indonesian Muslims prefer to cook their own meals at home for suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (breaking of the fast). Specifically, 58% of respondents cook their own suhoor, while 56% do so for iftar.

51% of respondents eat meals prepared by family members for suhoor, and 50% for iftar. 17% and 30% of respondents, respectively, pack their own meals for suhoor and iftar.

Furthermore, 13% of respondents opt to order food online for suhoor, while 17% do so for iftar.

6% and 13% of respondents choose to eat at restaurants for suhoor and iftar, respectively. Meanwhile, 4% and 5% of respondents use catering services for suhoor and iftar, respectively.

This survey involved 1,051 Muslim respondents, with a margin of error below 3%. Data collection was conducted on April 5-6, 2022.
