The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.13 million cases by Friday, September 30, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 1.76 million cases. This represents 34.24 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 0.22 percent. Daily figures show a 0.06 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 1.3 million.
Germany reported 441,400 Omicron cases (a 3.24% increase), France saw a 0.91 percent increase to 274,760 cases compared to the previous week, and Japan reported a 3.68 percent increase to 229,220 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 23,099 as of yesterday, a 1.48 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
