This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, four countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while six others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and South Korea. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, March 15, 2023, amounted to 178, with weekly growth above 0 percent.
India recorded the highest increase in deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded nine deaths, a 28.57 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Israel, which recorded 100 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. Daily data shows that deaths in this country increased by 9.68% compared to the previous day. Then, Saudi Arabia with four deaths (up 33.33%), the Philippines with 59 deaths (up 5.36%), and South Korea with 72 deaths (unchanged from the previous period).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 433 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 4.42% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the highest number of deaths was recorded in South Korea with 72 deaths (down 0%), the Philippines with 59 deaths (up 5.36%), Iran with 49 deaths (down 20.97%), and Israel with 34 deaths (up 100%).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 696. This accounts for 23.34 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 2,982. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 714.
