Although the transmission rate of Covid-19 in Indonesia is relatively low, cases have surged in several countries over the past week.
According to Worldometers data, there were 1,190,504 new Covid-19 cases in Japan during the year-end holiday period of December 24-30, 2022. This makes Japan the country with the highest surge in cases globally.
South Korea is second, reporting 464,750 new Covid-19 cases in the same period. The United States added 263,903 cases, and Brazil added 221,988 cases.
France, Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Argentina, and Russia also made the list of the top 10 countries with the most additional Covid-19 cases, with details as shown in the graph.
The high number of Covid-19 cases in these countries warrants caution, especially for those planning to travel or vacation abroad.
The public can continue to implement health protocols by wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. Complete vaccination and booster doses are also necessary to prevent severe symptoms and death from Covid-19 infection.
Indonesia currently ranks 29th globally, with an additional 4,896 Covid-19 cases in the past week.
