The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.11 million cases by Saturday, January 14, 2023. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 1.06 percent. GISAID recorded 2.1 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.22 percent compared to the previous day.
The United Kingdom follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the UK grew by 0.71 percent, totaling 1.38 million cases. Daily statistics show a 0.1 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, also totaling 1.38 million.
Next is Denmark with 346,640 Omicron cases (up 0.94%). Japan saw a 4.68 percent increase in Omicron cases to 337,250 compared to the previous week, and France saw a 0.87 percent increase to 325,650 cases compared to the previous week.
As for Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 32,621, a 0.47 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
