The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.85 million cases by Tuesday, March 8, 2022. According to GISAID data, Algeria recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 13 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Algeria currently represents 0 percent of the global total.
Sweden follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in the country grew by 165.75 percent. However, the daily increase in Omicron cases decreased by 0.04 percent compared to the previous day, which recorded 23,056 cases.
Furthermore, the increase in Omicron cases in the Republic of Moldova rose by 114.75 percent to 131 cases compared to the previous week, Malaysia saw an increase of 1,891 Omicron cases (up 53.61%), and Mauritius recorded an increase of 210 Omicron cases (up 28.83%).
Meanwhile, the increase in Omicron cases in Indonesia, up to today's data, stands at 7,204 cases, a decrease of 4.73 percent compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
