The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.7 million cases by Friday, July 29, 2022. According to GISAID data, Mozambique recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 222 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Mozambique currently represents 0 percent of the global total.
Next is Namibia, which recorded a 15.5 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 0.17 percent decrease in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Following this, Greece reported 5,640 new Omicron cases (a 14.77% increase), Pakistan saw an 11.72 percent increase to 1,163 cases compared to the previous week, and Japan saw a 9.1 percent increase to 135,710 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 16,526, a decrease of 0.01 percent compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
