The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.66 million cases by Monday, April 25, 2022. According to GISAID data, Montenegro recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 148 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Montenegro currently represents 0.01 percent of the global total.
Next is Malaysia, which recorded a 32.63 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 1.62 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Following this are Vietnam with 1,499 additional Omicron cases (a 10.63% increase), Puerto Rico with 3,482 additional Omicron cases (a 9.81% increase), and China (PRC) with 89 additional Omicron cases (an 8.54% increase).
In Indonesia, as of today, there have been 10,522 Omicron cases, a 1.32 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
