America Records the Highest Number of Omicron Cases Globally with 1.79 Million Cases

The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.53 million cases by Saturday, October 8, 2022. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 1.63 percent. GISAID recorded 1.79 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.04 percent compared to the previous day.

The United Kingdom follows with a 0.37 percent weekly increase in Omicron cases. Daily figures show a 0.04 percent increase compared to the previous day, totaling 1.31 million cases.

Furthermore, the number of Omicron cases in Germany increased by 0.87 percent to 445,250 compared to the previous week. Omicron cases in Denmark rose by 1.55 percent to 299,890 compared to the previous week, and France reported 277,700 cases (a 0.86% increase).

In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 23,664, a 0.21 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.

The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
