COVID-19 cases have surged over the past week. Consequently, active COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have also increased.
The COVID-19 Task Force report shows that active COVID-19 cases in Indonesia reached 94,109 as of February 2, 2022. Of this number, DKI Jakarta recorded the highest number of active COVID-19 cases at 41,818.
West Java is second with the highest number of active cases of people infected with the coronavirus, at 22,313. Banten and Bali each have 16,145 and 3,250 active COVID-19 cases, respectively.
Central Java and East Java have 2,703 and 2,090 active COVID-19 cases, respectively. Lampung, Yogyakarta Special Region, North Sumatra, and Papua are also among the provinces with the highest number of active COVID-19 cases, with 696, 620, 587, and 549 cases respectively.
The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia reached 4,387,286 as of February 2, 2022. 3.29% of these cases resulted in death, and 94.56% have recovered.
Siti Nadia Tarmizi, Director of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (P2P) at the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), said that the potential for a third wave could occur given the current increase in COVID-19 cases. To prevent a further increase in cases, Nadia urged the public to continue adhering to health protocols.
This includes wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is also urged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
